A MIRROR

In essence mirror brings a lot to our life in spite of the fact that it is heavily underrated . A mirror is your true friend it will show what you are without trying to butter you but for sure we don’t like it. We have been bought up in a world where materialistic qualities like beauty are preferred over vibrant souls. This convention makes us more prone to do things which cater to these demands. You might lie to a mirror on your external characteristics but the soul mirror cannot be fooled. Deep down you know who you are and the fact of the matter is you can’t fight it. A day arrives your breaking point and you keep a mirror in front of yourselves and the only thing you expect from the mirror is plain truth. There is a sense of satisfaction in knowing who you are good or bad it doesn’t matter. Good gives you happiness and the Bad opens a window to improve. Wait! I am not here to motivate you but I am here to keep a mirror in front of our society. Accepting oneself truly itself is a herculean task and here I am talking about accepting the truth about our country. Its surreal I realize that but I am not talking about changing the society I am simply writing to kickstart a conversation.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF DISHA RAVI

This young girl was at the forefront of sensationalism created by our so called “news” networks. Allegedly she was conspiring with the Khalistanis and was involved in inciting the violence which occurred on 26th January at the Red Fort . All of these charges were based on a toolkit which was shared by a Climate activist in relation to the ongoing Farmers protest which Disha edited. This young girl was picked up by the authorities on the basis of this charge. Initially I refrained myself from giving an opinion on this issue as I wanted to see how it plays out because I felt that certainly Delhi Police would have some really good evidence against her . One day I was going through my twitter thread and an elderly personnel commented that how can parents support youngsters engaging in activism and he also advised the youth to focus on their carriers rather than engaging in such “anti-state ” activities. When we were a kid one of the first things we are taught is standing for what is right our history lessons contain stories about our freedom struggle and about individuals who fought against the British for our independence. But that single person raised a major question on our education system as well as our society. In reality there are very few individuals who actually raise their voices against something wrong and rather than engaging our tolerance towards accepting a different frame of thinking is so less that we start giving labels like ‘Bhakts’ or ‘Anti- Nationals’ . But the thing that shocked me the most was that DP based it’s entire case against Disha on conjectures. The Girl was arrested because she had a conversation with Mo Dhaliwal thus making her a Khalistani confederate. This was so bewildering that even the judge presiding over the case had to point out the fact that the job of the police is to investigate and provide evidence but not to provide conspiracy theories. Disha is the fallout of a judicial inability to differ between dissent and sedition . This loophole is avidly exploited by the state consider this Section 124A(Sedition act) overrides Article 19 and through Section 43D of UAPA any individual can be sent to Jail without any legal trial up to 6 months. Again I never advocate absolute freedom of speech but there is no barometer to measure sedition. In practicality even if you speak against rising fuel prices you can be booked under 124A. So I make you a mirror and ask a question irrespective of whatever ideology you support is curbing dissent in the name of Sedition by the state tolerable for you .Because consider this today you might support this practice but sooner or later when injustice reaches your door you would realize it’s ills.
